FROM FATHER RICK
DEAR FRIENDS,
SISTER PARISH WEEKEND
This weekend we
celebrate our Sister Parish’s Feastday—the Birth of
Saint John the Baptist—at all the Masses.
At the 10:30 am Mass, we
will unveil and bless a statue of Saint John the
Baptist at the Baptismal Font. The statue is a gift
of John and Mary Sudol in memory of their fathers:
John Sudol and Anthony Gedaminsky. There will be
hospitality following the 10:30 featuring African
Cuisine. Plan to join us.
“YEAR OF SAINT PAUL”
To mark the 2000th
anniversary of the Birth of Saint Paul, Pope
Benedict XVI will open a Jubilee Year on Saturday,
June 28 (The Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul), at
Vespers to be celebrated at the Basilica of Saint
Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. This Holy Year will
extend until June 29, 2009. At his visit to the
Basilica to proclaim this year, Pope Benedict said:
“The church is, by
its nature, missionary; its primary task is
evangelization. At the beginning of the third
millennium, the church feels with renewed strength
that Christ's missionary mandate is more pressing
than ever.”
This year is a time for
all of us as disciples of Jesus to examine our
missionary spirit, and to recommit ourselves to
finding ways in our everyday lives to proclaim the
Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A SIMPLE REMINDER
Next time you patronize
a bulletin advertiser, thank them and let them know
you are doing business with them because of their
support of your church. You might be amazed by the
smile you get in return.
I wish you Peace,
Fr. Rick

Imagine being part of an
organization that fills your heart and your mind
with the joy of giving to others and the feeling
that comes with making a difference. Knights are
Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are
committed to making their community a better place,
while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is
more than camaraderie; it is being involved with
your community; it is supporting your local Catholic
Church, while enhancing your own faith and setting a
good faith example; it is about protecting and
enhancing your family life. You can volunteer as
much as you like or as little and on your own
schedule. For more information, contact Jim McKain
at 978-475-7931 or
Jim_McKain@NLTek.com, or go online to

Stewardship
Reflection
“Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not
one of them falls to the ground without your
Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head
are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more
than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31
God does not look at our
worth the way the world looks at our worth. God will
never ask us about our salary, our investment
portfolio, the kind of car we drove or how large our
house was. However, He will ask us what did we do
for other people.

Merrimack Valley Habitat
for Humanity is now rebuilding the homes that were
destroyed in the Lawrence fire this past winter.
Last year, volunteers from St. Roberts were among
the many groups who helped complete those homes
before the devastating fire. The Outreach Committee
would like to return with a group from St. Roberts
to help these well deserving and underprivileged
families restore their homes and rebuild their hope.
To learn more about the Market Street project and
the Mbiye and Reyes families, visit the Habitat
website at www.merrimackvalleyhabitat.org/market.htm.
There are several dates
available in August. It is a full Saturday, 8:00 am

For Whom We Pray
John Sudol recently
received the following update on Fr. Bob Manning’s
condition, along with thanks for the prayers of the
St. Roberts community: “He may not be able to answer
all your emails, but is doing reasonably well. He is
beginning a fresh round of chemo for palliative
purposes. Chemo is very painful for Bob, since his
immune system is down. But he’s soldiering on. I am
sure he will be grateful for your concern and for
your prayers.”

SCRIPTURE READINGS
FOR NEXT WEEK–SOLEMNITY OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL
A reading from the
Acts of the Apostles 12:1-11
In those days, King
Herod laid hands upon some members of the Church to
harm them. He had James, the brother of John, killed
by the sword, and when he saw that this was pleasing
to the Jews he proceeded to arrest Peter also. It
was the feast of Unleavened Bread. He had him taken
into custody and put in prison under the guard of
four squads of four soldiers each. He intended to
bring him before the people after Passover. Peter
thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the
Church was fervently being made to God on his
behalf.
On the very night before
Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter, secured by
double chains, was sleeping between two soldiers,
while outside the door guards kept watch on the
prison. Suddenly the angel of the Lord stood by him
and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on
the side and awakened him, saying, “Get up quickly.”
The chains fell from his wrists. The angel said to
him, “Put on your belt and your sandals.” He did so.
Then he said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow
me.” So he followed him out, not realizing that what
was happening through the angel was real; he thought
he was seeing a vision. They passed the first guard,
then the second, and came to the iron gate leading
out to the city, which opened for them by itself.
They emerged and made their way down an alley, and
suddenly the angel left him.
A reading from the
second Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18
I, Paul, am already
being poured out like a libation, and the time of my
departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have
finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now
on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the
Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day,
and not only to me, but to all who have longed for
his appearance.
The Lord stood by me and
gave me strength, so that through me the
proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles
might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion’s
mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil
threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly
Kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
+ A reading from the
holy Gospel according to Matthew 16:13-19
When Jesus went into the
region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They
replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,
still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He
said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon
Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of
the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply,
“Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and
blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly
Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon
this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of
the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will
give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever
you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and
whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in
heaven.”
