FEASTDAY WEEKEND
Thank you to all who
contributed to or participated in any way at our Feastday Weekend
celebrations. I think it was an extraordinary experience of the life and
joy that has become the hallmark of Saint Robert’s.
As you well know, the heart
of the weekend was our celebrations of the Eucharist—all of which
overflowed from banquet to banquet! Thanks to all the ministers, but
most importantly thanks to you the assembly who worshipped so fully and
so well.
Thanks to our incredible
Music Ministry for the superb concert on Friday evening and their
musical leadership at all the Feastday Masses over the weekend.
Thanks to Irene Bonner and
Janet Schiavoni for preparing and coordinating the "New York Deli."
Thanks to Arleen Puccia for
coordinating and executing the Saturday night Italian Feast, and to all
the generous cooks who contributed a dish and those who served the
incredible feast that was put before us after the 4:00 Mass. It was
truly abondanza!
Thanks to Peter Schiavoni and
Rick Dube who created a scrumptious Euro Breakfast Café.
Thanks to the faithful chefs
who prepared and served an ethnic dish at the International Food and
Wine Festival.

EXTRAORDINARY
MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION: MINISTRY IN MASS AND BEYOND
Wednesday,
Nov. 28, & Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 7:00—9:00 PM
Corpus Christi
Parish, Lawrence
Often when one thinks of
those who are ministers of Holy Communion the focus is solely on their
ministry in Mass. This workshop will address those issues but also go
beyond that aspect of their ministry. There are three primary avenues in
which such ministry may be of further service to local parishes. The
first is ministering to those who are homebound, the second is bringing
communion to those who are in the hospital, and the third is bringing
communion to those in nursing homes. There are unique issues that need
to be addressed in each of these areas, for example, what differentiates
bringing communion to the homebound from a home visitation, what are the
issues that one should be concerned with when visiting the hospital, and
when bringing communion to the nursing home. Is it possible to celebrate
a communion service led by laity? How should that be done? All of these
issues will be covered in this workshop.
FUNDAMENTALS
OF THE MINISTRY OF LECTORING
Time &
Location in a nearby parish to be announced
This lector workshop will be
beneficial for both new and experienced lectors. This workshop is
intended to develop a fundamental understanding of the liturgy and the
role of the lector in the celebration of the Mass. Therefore, this
workshop will focus on such topics as what is the Liturgy of the Word
and its theology, the role of ministry in the celebration of the Mass,
and, in particular, the role of the lector in the liturgy, the
spirituality of the ministry, and issues around proper preparation to
fulfill it. Other important issues include the difference between public
speaking and proclamation, a general review of the Lectionary and how it
is structured, and developing a sense that proclaiming God’s word is a
unique form of public speaking.
GROUNDING OUR
LITURGICAL LIFE
Wednesday,
October 24, & Wednesday, October 31, from 7:00—9:00 PM
Saint James
Parish, Haverhill
A two-session workshop
designed for those who are currently involved in liturgical ministry in
the parish or those who seek to better understand the celebration of the
Mass. This workshop will address such issues as what is liturgy and what
is meant when we are talking about the liturgy. Other topics will be why
do we celebrate on Sunday and what is the history and theology of this
important development of the Church. Furthermore, we will delve into a
general overview of the Mass and the role of the assembly, ministers,
and music in the celebration.
Have a great week,
If you want peace – work for
justice (Pope Paul VI),
Fr. Rick

Imagine being part of an
organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving
to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. Knights
are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making
their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a
Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your
community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing
your own faith and setting a good faith example; it is about protecting
and enhancing your family life. You can volunteer as much as you like or
as little and on your own schedule. If you want to find out more,
contact Jim McKain at 978-475-7931 or visit the website at

Stewardship
Reflection
"If you are not trustworthy
with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?" Luke
16:12
God entrusts each of us with
unique gifts and talents, so that we can make a contribution to God’s
work here on earth. If we do not use our gifts in the way that God
intended then we betray the trust God placed in us. When we do share our
gifts we feel the joy that comes from making our unique contribution.
Giving doesn’t hurt. It feels great!

Question of
the Week—Twenty-Fifth Ordinary Sunday
Question for Adults:
Money is an important part of modern life. Suggest one or two ways you
can keep the need for money in balance with your faith.
Question for Youth: The
Gospel tells us that money can get in the way of serving God. As a young
person, having money is important, but how can you make faith a priority
and balance it with your need for money?
Question for Children:
Clothes, food, toys all cost money. How do you keep your faith more
important than money?

SCRIPTURE
READINGS FOR NEXT WEEK—TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A reading from the Book of
the Prophet Amos 6:1a, 4-7
Thus says the Lord the God of
hosts: Woe to the complacent in Zion! Lying upon beds of ivory,
stretched comfortably on their couches, they eat lambs taken from the
flock, and calves from the stall! Improvising to the music of the harp,
like David, they devise their own accompaniment. They drink wine from
bowls and anoint themselves with the best oils; yet they are not made
ill by the collapse of Joseph! Therefore, now they shall be the first to
go into exile, and their wanton revelry shall be done away with.
A reading from the first
Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy 6:11-16
But you, man of God, pursue
righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Compete
well for the faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called
when you made the noble confession in the presence of many witnesses. I
charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ
Jesus, who gave testimony under Pontius Pilate for the noble confession,
to keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance
of our Lord Jesus Christ that the blessed and only ruler will make
manifest at the proper time, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who
alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, and whom no
human being has seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal power. Amen
+ A reading from the holy
Gospel according to Luke 16:19-31
Jesus said to the Pharisees:
"There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and
dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named
Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the
scraps that fell from the rich man’s table. Dogs even used to come and
lick his sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to
the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from
the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw
Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, ‘Father
Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in
water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.’
Abraham replied, ‘My child, remember that you received what was good
during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but
now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between
us and you a great chasm is established to prevent anyone from crossing
who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.
He said, ‘Then I beg you, father, send him to my father’s house, for I
have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this
place of torment.’ But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the
prophets. Let them listen to them.’ He said, ‘Oh no, father Abraham, but
if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Then Abraham
said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will
they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.’"
