COMMUNITY
PRAYER INTENTIONS
The parish
community joins together in prayer in several different ways to support
those facing illness or death. If a loved one is ill and you would like
the parish community to pray for them, there are several options:
Book of Intentions: you may enter the name of the person
each week in the Book of Intentions, located in the Prayer
Niche in the Gathering Space
Prayer Line: there is a group of parishioners who pray for
requested intentions each day
Bulletin Prayer Corner: the person’s name can be placed in
the bulletin prayer corner so that the community can include
them in their daily prayers. For the prayer line and the
prayer corner, please contact Irene in the Parish Office at
ibonner@comcast.net
or 978-683-8922. Or
stop by the office during business hours (M-F, 9:30-4:30
PM).
General
Intercessions at Sunday Mass: in the case of serious or
critical illness, we will pray for the person publicly at
Sunday Mass. Please contact Fr. Rick at
rtconway@comcast.net.
If someone in your family
dies, and we are aware of the death, two things happen automatically:
The person’s name will be included in the bulletin so that
the community can include them in their daily prayers
The person’s name will be included in the Intercession for
the Deceased in the Prayer of the Faithful at Sunday Mass
Other options
for the deceased include:
Memorial Mass: a memorial Mass may be celebrated for the
deceased person; because weekend Mass dates book quickly, we
advise you to call about a year in advance of the date or
dates you desire; usually a weekday Mass is easier to book
in the case of Month’s Mind Masses, etc.
Mass Intention Cards: Mass cards for the deceased and for
the living are available in the Parish Office
You may enter
your intentions in the parish Book of Intentions, located in the Prayer
Niche in the Gathering Space, anytime. If you have any questions about
the above options, please feel free to contact Irene in the Parish
Office at
ibonner@comcast.net or 978-683-8922. Or stop by the
office during business hours (M-F, 9:30-4:30 PM).
GENERATIONS OF FAITH
Please notice

dates will be held in Driscoll Hall.

Knights of
Columbus
Imagine being part of an
organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving
to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. Knights
are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making
their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a
Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your
community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing
your own faith and setting a good faith example; it is about protecting
and enhancing your family life. You can volunteer as much as you like or
as little and on your own schedule. If you want to find out more,
contact Jim McKain at 978-475-7931 or visit the website at

Next Meeting: Wed., Sept.
5, 7:30 PM in Driscoll Hall.
Stewardship
Reflection
"For behold, some are last
who will be first and some are first who will be last." Luke 13:30
Our standards in our society
are so different from God’s standards. We often rate or rank people by
what they have, how powerful they are, or how successful they are. Jesus
reminds us that God will not judge us by the same earthly standards.

Question of
the Week
Twenty-first
Ordinary Sunday
Question for Adults:
As you wrestle with today’s
Gospel, what signs do you see in your own life that you are "with God."
Question for Youth:
Jesus tells us that being His
disciple will be very hard. Of all the things that Jesus tells us about
the way that we are to live our lives, what is the hardest thing for you
to do? Why?
Question for Children:
How do you show that you are
a follower of Jesus?
A Note from
the Poor Clare Sisters
Dear Father Rick and the St.
Roberts Community,
We were deeply touched by
your beautiful "Celtic Cross" sympathy card and the "Singing My Soul" CD
you gifted us with in memory of our Sister Miriam. May Sister Miriam
rest in the great peace and joy of life with our loving God and all
redeemed singing and dancing God’s praises.
May our loving God richly
bless your loving care and concern for both the living and the deceased.
It is our privilege and joy
to enfold you in our daily prayer. Do bless us with your good prayer.
With love, with gratitude,
Your Poor Clare Sisters
An Irish
Blessing
May there
always be work for your hands to do;
In your purse
may there always be a coin or two.
May the sun
always shine on your window pane;
The rainbow be
certain after the rain.
May the warm
handclasp of a friend always be near you,
God’s love and
blessing always to cheer you!

Special
Collection This Weekend
Victims of the
Earthquake in Peru
The second collection at all
Masses this weekend will be to aid the victims of the August 15th
earthquake in Peru. Hundreds have lost their lives, thousands have been
injured, and towns and villages have been all but destroyed by this
magnitude 7.9 earthquake that struck 100 miles south of Peru’s capital
city, Lima. Please give generously to help these people as they begin to
recover from the devastation of this disaster.
There is also a special
connection between the Archdiocese of Boston and Peru through the
Society of St. James, a missionary society made up of diocesan priests
serving in Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. In the words of Cardinal Seán
O'Malley: "Boston has a long standing tradition of great generosity with
the victims of natural disasters, and Peru is very close to our hearts
through the works of so many Boston priests who through the years have
ministered there serving the poorest among the poor in Peru."
Please remember in your
prayers those newly baptized into our community:

SCRIPTURE
READINGS FOR NEXT WEEK–TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A reading
from the Book of Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29
My child,
conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a
giver of gifts. Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you
will find favor with God. What is too sublime for you, seek not, into
things beyond your strength search not. The mind of a sage appreciates
proverbs, and an attentive ear is the joy of the wise. Water quenches a
flaming fire, and alms atone for sins.
A reading
from the Letter to the Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a
Brothers and
sisters: You have not approached that which could be touched and a
blazing fire and gloomy darkness and storm and a trumpet blast and a
voice speaking words such that those who heard begged that no message be
further addressed to them. No, you have approached Mount Zion and the
city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in
festal gathering, and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven,
and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect, and
Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that
speaks more eloquently than that of Abel.
+ A reading
from the holy Gospel according to Luke 14:1, 7-14
On a sabbath
Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the
people there were observing him carefully.
He told a
parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing
the places of honor at the table. "When you are invited by someone to a
wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more
distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, and the host
who invited both of you may approach you and say, ‘Give your place to
this man,’ and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the
lowest place. Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place
so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a
higher position.’ Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at
the table. For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one
who humbles himself will be exalted." Then he said to the host who
invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your
friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in
case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you
hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For
you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
